MYTHS AND TRUTHS ABOUT THE PRINT INDUSTRY

    OUR INDUSTRY IS GROWING!

In the 1980s before recyclable cartridges were built, the practice was to drill holes in empty cartridges and refill them with toner, causing leaks, shadowing and bleeding. A myth emerged that "recycling" caused printing quality problems.

Once consumers realized the problem, they began to demand environment-friendly and economic cartridge solutions. ORIGINAL MANUFACTURERs responded with cartridges specifically designed for aftermarket remanufacturing. Many parts of the cartridge are now completely reusable and/or recyclable: optical photoconductor drums, wiper blades, doctor blades, developer rollers, primary charge rollers, foams, felts, seals and others. Page yield, density and toner formula are regularly and rigorously tested when assessing the viability of recyclable parts and materials.

If you're still wondering what's true and what isn't, we've prepared a list of some misunderstandings that have plagued our industry:

MYTH: Many people have bad experiences with recycled toner; remanufactured cartridges damage printers.
TRUTH: In the early days, remanufacturers had fewer materials to work with. Today, there is no excuse for building bad cartridges. Some remanufacturers are more scrupulous than others. Choose your remanufacturer carefully.

MYTH: Using remanufactured laser cartridges doesn’t really save money.
TRUTH:It costs the consumer 40% less to purchase recycled cartridges. For example: a Hewlett Packard 4000 printer uses 1 cartridge per month, costing on average $200 retail monthly = $2400 annually. Whereas: a remanufactured laser cartridge costs $115 monthly = $1380 annually. Total annual savings using remanufactured cartridges are $1010. An office of 10 printers with refurbished cartridges saves $10,100.

MYTH: Recycling cartridges has no impact on the environment or industry.
TRUTH: A new laser cartridge uses 4 quarts of oil. Remanufactured laser cartridges use half the oil, putting less demand on oil resources and possibly lowering oil prices to consumers.

MYTH: No one really uses recycled cartridges.
TRUTH: 30% of all cartridges produced will eventually be re-manufactured.

MYTH: ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER products are equipped with better, new, top-of-the-line parts.
TRUTH: Xerox and Canon use remanufactured parts in their cartridges (info found on packaging); however, they sell their cartridges at much higher prices.

MYTH: Using recycled or remanufactured laser cartridges voids the printer's warranty.
TRUTH: This has never been any ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER's policy.

    MYTH: Laser cartridges are biodegradable.
TRUTH: The plastic, aluminum, foam, steel and rubber materials in laser cartridges last more than 1,000 years before breaking down. Long after our great-grandchildren’s great-grandchildren are gone, the cartridges disposed of by our generation will still be intact.
